With one hand they're imposing caps on team spending, and with the other they're pushing up charges such that the likes of Silverstone can't afford to compete for a race (no doubt replaced by somewhere in the East that have no problem showering Bernie with gold). If the FIA is pocketing the proceeds when they should have rightfully been distributed to the teams then they clearly have serious problems irrespective of the cap.
In any event there's too much politics in F1, and Bernie's jovial 'ignorance' of the situation just broadcast on the BBC certainly doesn't help the situation. Fans seem to be coming down on both sides. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. |

Personally I agree with there being some sort of cap in place. There are many arguements for and against the cap. Yes F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and innovation should be encouraged but if you allow people to spend without limit you can forget any kind of real competition. It's not like they have reduced it to a stupidly low amount. The two teir system was never going to work but that idea was binned long ago now, it's not really part of the current situation. If there is a split and they go their separate ways I can see that crippling both series.
It seems to have got overly political now to a stage where the sport is taking a back seat. Strangely it seems like many people (not on the forums here I mean in general) are demonising Mosley when in fact I personally think the Ferrari camp have far more to answer for for having things go pear shaped. I'll be very disappointed to see it split into 2 series so hope they try and sort something out before it's too late. Time will only tell, but it does seem that there are people willing to cut off their nose to spite their own face on both sides so we could already be beyond the point of no return. |

The problem with the cap is that if you're used to spending £100M and then have to drop to £40M, what happens to all the long term contracts you have with other manufacturers, suppliers, staff, etc? You can't just lose all of that overnight.

If you do I guess there would be some serious financial penalties too. Under those circumstances I'd be passing the bills onto the FIA!
