Do it every couple of hours. You cant overdose on it, so just keep doing it.
And hold your head there as long as you can bear it.

I recommend using the menthol head and shoulders too, I have really bad sinus problems and a hot shower in the morning with that stuff really helps clear the morning nose blockages.

Another option is a 15 minute walk or bike ride when it's cold with a pocketful of tissues. This does of course work better in winter than summer, but that's usually when it's most needed

I discovered this when I started using the bike more and more - I don't suffer from colds any more. Not sure if I'm not catching them or not noticing when I have caught them - but I definitely don't suffer
