You'd want to get her the paperwhite now, I think basically a touch but better as you can change the background & read in the dark? (?)

If you're still looking for something, I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" for sale.
Just the bare unit as cable and box have gone AWOL but aftermarket soft case included. Let me know if you're interested (or indeed if anyone else is)
