Can't you just install windows XP on it and download the drivers separately? I hate recovery discs usually...

I was going to steal him one of the Dell XP Home OS disks and a Drivers and Utilities CD... but they'd all been stolen already!

To be fair then the licence is valid as long as you (re)install the same O/S on it... Mainly because MS don't care about the actual software but rather the licence for that software.. When I sorted my little sister's laptop I had to call up MS to activate it, they were fine when I said that I'd borrowed a disc to reinstall but it was the same rig that came with the licence... Saying that, my offer is still open Daz...

If nobody manages to find one, I should have a few in the office. Lemme know and I can have a look on the way to/from the hospital tomorrow.

Dell sucks worse than Packard Bell! (this is the first, last and only time you'll hear this... despite it being true)

Incorrect. Packard Bell suck worse than anyone (except Tiny, but we all know where they went). The OEM key thing is a Microsoft requirement.
Daz, if you'd have gone through Add/Remove and nuked all the crap, you'd be done by now. |

I've done it before using media from random machines, just phoned up and they were fine with it... but bah. Good luck with it.

Needs to be Dell OEM media, not just any old one, else the key wont work. All the big OEM's can lock their keys/media like that.

I'm going to grace the office with my presence on Tuesday so I'll have a look through the pile and see what we've got. I know we had several copies of Dell XP Home but the store room has been 'tidied' since I last saw them so they may no longer be with us.
If I find one, I'll make an iso and PM you a URL unless someone gets there before me. |
