I think it's a question of "grin and bear it".

I have it! I'm not sure how big it is, but it's big enough. It is fantabulous, but I have noticed the darkness issue, but only with 'aquired' films that may not be all that great quality anyway. I'd highly recommend it! Sadly my ex has said its the one thing he wants out of the whole house, so I might lose custody Why couldnt he have wanted one of the kids?!?!?!

It used to be the case that plasmas outshone LCDs in terms of quality but that in turn plasmas got fairly hot. Nowadays there's very little in either IMO and you'll often see certain LCDs perform better than plasmas, and plasmas that are cooler than some LCDs. When it comes down to it, the best thing to do is to actually compare them (provided the shop is showing you an HD broadcast). In terms of what's a better make though, Panasonic are pretty much the best, but you pay for it. My Samsung 32" was £900 almost a year ago, with freeview built in, and I've never had cause to wonder if it could be better. It copes fine with my 360, DVDs, TV reception, and I'm even still impressed by the quality of the built-in speakers when playing CDs. Don't know if it's come down in price since but if it has it's probably still a bargain!

I suppose it depends on what you want from it. In large 50" >= installations I'd still choose a Plasma. For a smaller "fun" TV an LCD might well be a better choice. I'm glad we agree on Panasonic though If I step off the soap box for a minute I admit there is very little between a top end LCD and a very good Plasma now - yes LCD's are definitely catching up - but for me they haven't quite caught up yet.

Summat like that.
I'm also just about to sell a few shares which will wipe out the cost of that, even if it doesn't touch the rest of my debts. Don't get me wrong, I won't be replacing it if it breaks - that sort of luxury is no longer appropriate for me. |

Nothing I have seen has made me think about changing the 32" Phillips CRT in the front room, this is because Aitch wouldn't want another projector upstairs LCD and Plasma just don't fire my rockets.
