I was thinking about this last night. You all seem right. I do like outgoing programme access control, just because I'm not keen on letting any app just have free reign on the net. Probably paranoid, but I do think my thinking dates back to probably win2k (and even earlier).

I used to be like that and I had a multi-user ZA Pro license for that purpose. When the renewal came up I decided I couldn't afford it nor justify the cost given the benefit. Each time I upgraded a machine to XP SP2 it came off as the version I had licensed wasn't compatible, and I eventually realised I wasn't missing it.

I can justify outgoing control if (a) I don't want some applications to be able to 'phone home' for whatever reason (legal or otherwise) or (b) I'm careless about what I open/download. Neither of these currently applies to me.
