I was under the impression these 32MB Cache Spinpoint F1 drives are pretty bloody quick. As in, Raptor quick, but without the noise...

I have heard about a bad batch with the Samsung F1 drives so just be careful.

Got a Sammy 1TB drive and it's doing sterling service thus far. Is now available for under 100 quid too.

I tend to avoid the highest capacity drive in a particular range. Dunno if it's paranoia or what but to me staying one size away from the highest capacity seemed sound.
Having said that I made an exception for my TV show archive (two 750GB Maxtors in RAID-0). I see that as extra capacity for stuff that if I lose it'll be annoying but not important. It was the cheapest 1.5TB option on the market at the time. |
