Silly suggestion but how about buying a 4870x2?

Honestly, such minor technicalities.

I have a 9400 that uses the same gfx card as the M1710. I think its a 7800GO. For this to work you need modified .infs on the drivers as this isn't supported either. Will never make the mistake of getting a gaming laptop again. I digress, but is there a list of affected chips? I'm still under warranty and have no problem sending it back.

Hence the reason they haven't given a list, they don't want a pile of laptops back for no reason, causing them more trouble

I'm using a modded .inf now and it works to a degree but the card tends to overheat rather quickly - I can't play graphics intensive games for very long before it overheats and craps out (about half an hour max)

Ahh cos ATI never had driver problems

I'm not bothering with any upgrade yet. The 8800GTX I have still rocks tbh and since I've this now for 18 months it's without a doubt the best card I've had. I'm not an ATI or NVIDIA fan boy, I just go with the best in market at the time i upgrade.

Give it a few months and when the uni kids get their cardit card bills and can't afford that £300 card they bought for bragging rights, they sell 'em for a snip. I picked up my previous 2 cards this way.

You have a point around the CCC. But this was immediately solved by downloading the version that didn't use CCC. Then use your own overclocking tool. Never had issues where gfx were corrupted like with the nvidias.

That being said I will stick with this 8800GTS as there is nothing out there that really stresses it. Except the abomination that is Crysis.

Think back to before the CCC too, Radeon 7000/8000 series had horrific drivers, ran like they'd been coded by chimps.
