Battle: Los Angeles

Well, what can I say? This film takes itself FAR too seriously. I was expecting a bit of fun like Starship Troopers or Independence Day, a good action sci-fi flick with a bit of humour and a brilliant feel good film of earth conquering the alien enemy. Instead we got endless amount of close-ups of gritty sweaty faces with angry stares. Endless amounts of irritating real hardcore military drumming music (mainly used in the close-ups of gritty sweaty faces with angry stares) and endless amonts of "god damn it", "hooooahhh" and other cheesey one liners that had no place in this film. Either make it serious or make it cheesey and fun....don't do a half way house and expect it to work. My mate Tubbs just stood up at the end and said "that was dog ****". I think he summed it up well.

It's a shame though, because it could have been a really good and different type of film, if they had just cut some of the crap. But it totally ruined it for me.

2/10

RED

Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Brian Cox

It's a unique film, Helen Mirren fires a machine gun and doesn't get her kit off... Where else can you see that?

Very silly, doesn't take itself seriously at all. Lots of explosions, gun fire and really good fun. Malkovich in particular is excellent as the nutter.

Ip Man

Starring
  • Donnie Yen
  • Simon Yam
  • Siu-Wong Fan
  • Ka Tung Lam
Martial arts film

8/10 It's not the only film I've watched recently but it is one of the few that I've felt is worth mentioning or that I've not watched before. It's a semi-biographical film loosely based on Yip Man, the first master to teach Wing Chun openly. It's probably obvious by now that I've got a bit of a liking for martial arts films almost irrespective of their qualities but this one actually has a bit of a storyline, dubious historical accuracy perhaps but the acting is solid for the most part, the martial arts are well executed and it's entertaining.

Bradley Cooper Pwhooarrrage! he is HOT!

And despite (annoyingly) being in it... Anna Friel is NOT!

A clear pill can make you invincible and enable you to do, learn everything you want!!

But there are always side effects right??

Nice easy film to watch with Bradley Cooper... did I say phwoar?!

Rocky

Still great, love Stallone in this, 2 hours of pure bliss

8/10

Rocky II

Just as good a little more thinking its bigger better than, not sure why he didn't do anything after nearly beating Creed but sets the film up more with the hero to zero needs money Creed ego, story could of been better played out.

Source Code
9/10

Jake Gyllenhaal
Michelle Monaghan
Vera Farmiga

Scientists have developed technology that allows a person to be relive the world of the last 8 minutes of someones life, over and over again, nicknamed "The Source Code". This isn't a case of just living the same events over and over, he can actually move around and experience the world as it was, right there and then, and the world reacts appropriately.

A bomb explodes on a train on the outskirts of Chicago, a calling card from a bomber threatening to blow up a nuclear device downtown. Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) is sent in to relive the final 8 minutes courtesy of a brain recovered from the wreckage, being killed by the bomb over and over again until he can track down and identify the bomber.

It's well written, well acted, smart and engrossing film. Director Duncan Jones (Moon) shines again, this time with the advantage of a Hollywood budget. Michelle Monaghan is a thoroughly enchanting romantic lead, even if it's hard to build up much romance when she resets every 8 minutes or so.

I'd say it's well worth the watch, and on big screen if possible.

It did lead to Kari and I watching Groundhog Day that evening

Oooh I like the sound of that one Garp! Will put it on my watch list!

Watched these couple in the past few weeks... know they've been reviewed so short and sweet:

Burried

Chap burried alive... film is around him trying to escape. Watched all the way through out of curiosity. The whole filming itself was good - made me feel a bit gaspy gasp at times. Not a bad film... not a particularly great film... although they did well to sustain peoples attention with what they had.

6/10

Push

Film about people with super hero powers. Poor POOR film directing and just general camera work. Very very amateur feeling to it and look. Imagine the series Heroes... and then minus Hadyn Panitierre (omgee I just googled her to check spelling of name and have fallen back in lub.) and anything awesome... and you've got Push.

I can see so desperately how the story line was actually kinda cool. But BIG fail. I'm not sure I even finished watching it.... lol!

2/10

The 2 was for the storyline. Everything else = fail.

You still failed btw.

I liked Push. It was awful awfully put together but an easy film to watch.

Had high hopes for this and they didn't live up to them. 6/10
