For 3G settings you should have...

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network...

APN : idata.o2.co.uk
Username : vertigo
Password : password

yeah, that doesn't work as I don't have an Iphone tarrif, but I do have 3g on a normal o2 tariff.
It also won't automatically get settings just says error.

Will have to phone o2 up.

Had to change the settings manually.

Mobile.o2.co.uk

and

wap.o2.co.uk

However know I can't get yahoo mail working. Keeps saying either email address or password is wrong. which they aren't.

Yep, afraid so. Can't define any groups to send to, not that I use the feature. I also use a Cydia prog called biteSMS which kicks the standard message app in to touch.

does bitsms allow group sending? can you install it on a non jail broken phone?
Or any other SMS application, which can do group.

Nope, you can't install biteSMS on a non jailbroken phone. I assume that there aren't any SMS applications available on the App Store.
