Apollo 18
Err, WTF? Maybe I wasn't paying attention but I really didn't know what was going on and the film didn't hold my attention one iota. 1/10

Cowboys vs. Aliens
There is so much to dislike about this film before it even starts, well the title, it sounds like a dodgy B Movie that you'd expect to see on a Wednesday afternoon on SciFi so I really wasn't expecting much from this film. The film starts with a amnesia struck Daniel Craig looking suitably sexy (I'm not gay or owt but I would) and develops into a Western before surprise, surprise there is an Alien attack and Harrison Ford turns up. From this point onwards the film reminds me a lot of Indiana Jones 4, an Alien plot in a film where you can't help feeling it doesn't fit. There's something about Aliens, I'll happily accept them in a film based now or the future (or whatever they thought it would be in the 70/80s) but Aliens in the past just feels wrong. Anyways, luckily the similarity to Indiana Jones 4 are limited as that was ****e whereas Cowboys vs. Aliens is rather good fun. Definitely not a film to be taken too seriously but a pretty good plot, good CGI and good acting left me very pleasantly surprised. 7/10 |

Very good, not sure how sum it up, but decent comedy, and heart wrenching moment. Nice (yet mostly predictable/same old) plot, good watch though 8/10 Last edited by LeperousDust; 01-12-2011 at 08:24. |

As someone who hates graphic violence, Paul put this on on saturday as a 'comedy.' I haven't forgiven him yet.

Crazy Heart
Great performances, and even better to see an actor (Jeff Bridges) in a musical role playing an instrument believably (see also Sam Jackson in Black Snake Moan). 8/10 Lock Up Sylvester Stallone as a prisoner transferred to a high-security institution by a vindictive warden (Donald Sutherland). Decent late-80s fare with enough tension to make it semi-believable. Bit paint-by-numbers by today's standards though. Worth a look. 6/10 Easy A Expecting very little I was actually pleasantly surprised. Emma Stone is a 'nobody' at her school until she lies to a friend about losing her virginity. Overheard by the school Jesus-freak (their words, not mine), the rumour spreads. Catalysed by reading The Scarlett Letter, she starts to make up new stories about her promiscuity to help other misfits at the school appear more popular, with results that snowball out of control until she doesn't even recognise herself any more. Oh, it's a comedy btw. Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci as her parents are standout characters. Both hilarious. Apart from that it's not laugh-a-minute but any movie that can ward off my hatred of Thomas Haden Church obviously has something going for it. It's no Mean Girls, but Emma Stone is outstanding as Olive; cute, smart and funny. I'm certain she will become the actress that Lindsay Lohan should have been. 7/10

Hobo with a Shotgun.
I very nearly turned it off about 1/3 the way through. Glad I didn't though. It reminded me of Peter Jackson's Brain Dead with it's excessive splattery-gore-fest. Let down by Rutger Hauer's far-too-nice-for-a-hobo's teeth. 6.5/10
