I can download steam for free, then pay for and download CS:S through that correct? I'll kick it off tonight.

Yup. Spot on. Still considering doing that.
I'm willing to ask my provider if it's OK to put a game server on my box in London. Don't see why not as the box I'm on was originally a game server. I get good pings to it, so providing the disk-intensive stuff doesn't melt it (runs every night), then it should be good. Would have to be a Linux server of course. |

If you can spare the twelve quid then yes, it's worth it. Mark, it might even be worth giving it a try and if you don't get on with it then it's not a great loss. If we're going to have our own server then great, I'll turn mine off but it'd be nice if Burbs puts one on with decent connectivity that it has a similar setup regarding the bots, etc.
I've not done much in the map selections yet, really only got some of the defaults plus a nice snowy FY map Input from everyone would be good regarding a selection of maps and then yes, I think a single server for us would r0x0r.

And if we can get some kid of management stuff on there we can select a map to play at the time. Maybe along with some Bot control too? Dunno if that's all possible.

I must say that I have been thoroughly enjoying the past week's CS:S fun Even last night before everyone joined in and I was just slaughtering bots (hahahahahah bots fell over ) it was great. Then after I had cooked and consumed dinner and there were more people on the server it was superb, involving lots of giggly moments.
I also learnt a very important lesson, running 2 eve clients at the same time as CS causes it to chug a bit A dedicated server for BD would be awesome and whether it's Burble or Jarp that set it up, so long as it's a good connection and we all have fun then it'll be ftw \o/

I've got to hack about with budget figures most of the afternoon so I'll probably end up having the server ready for testing tomorrow evening.

Sorted then. I'll go back to knackering my own server. Just found a 22 gigabyte log file on it.
And yes Feek, I was thinking exactly the same thing. Maybe I can set up a private local server and practice against a few bots. |
