Battleship
What an utter cheese fest Acting was pretty poor-average but I actually liked the storyline and the aliens even if it was all totally predictable and stupid at times, especially at the end. Having said that, it was a Sunday afternoon brain out movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it in that sense. 6/10

The dictator.
Plenty of funny one liners and short sequences, but way too scripted for me. I prefer to see SBC thinking on his feet. 6/10

The Dark Knight Rises
Alright. Just about wrapped things up I guess. A few things irked me about the whole thing and I'm not sure I can even pinpoint what they all were. Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read! I'm convinced that Catwoman didn't need to be in this at all though. She appears out of nowhere at the start and is suddenly somehow an integral part of everything whilst not really serving a purpose as far as the story is concerned. There are things in the film that are there then gone again such as Bruce's new super-kick, and Catwoman's little mate. Morgan Freeman just turned up to collect his paycheck. 'The Bat' felt oddly contrived; convenient. Near the end I was sidetracked by little things like why doesn't Batman fall through the ice? Why did he waste time putting a burning bat on the bridge? Why wasn't Gary Oldman even bruised rolling around in the back of a van with an atomic bomb, in a crash that killed the driver? End Spoiler Alert! I like that the stories are intertwined from the beginning of the trilogy and that we got an ending to it all, but TDK felt flawless whereas this feels... cobbled together. 7/10

I really liked DKR. Probably my favourite of the three, but that will change as I rewatch the others. Completely different style and tone to DK so find it hard to compare although nice to see Batman didn't have the most ridiculous voice in the film this time around.

Someone obviously told me to rent this one as it is completely off my normal watching radar.
The Deep Blue Sea Based on a 1950s play starring Rachel Weiz. It is about a wife trapped in a loveless marriage set and she then meets an old RAF pilot. Sorry to say it is a story around self destruction and the path that leads there. A fantastic use of classical music by the director and each piece is carefully chosen. I won't give too much more away but it is a cracking story. Hit a chord as it is something I have seen too many times (and I'm only 29!) happen to too many people. The messages meant for the older viewers I got as I have seen it with my family. You know what, I would give it an 8/10. Certainly way off my normal kind of watch and I won't see it again. However credit where it is due, a damn good film and a nice change. Give it a go |

I've recently acquired a bit of a zombie fixation, even going so far as to start a blog with my thoughts. I'm attempting to watch or rewatch every zombie film ever made and yeah I know it's probably a mid-life crisis but it's got to be better than getting a motorbike or having an affair...
Last night I watched Dead Snow, a norwegian nazi zombie flick set in the icy tundra. It was absurd, a bit confused in that it seemed to want to be a serious cliche horror flick as well as a Bruce Campbell parody slaughter-fest, and it was very very gory with unmemorable acting. Despite all this is I quite enjoyable it in places, and have definately seen worse. I gave it 6/10. And I'll plug my blog too, I can't resist (sorry!) http://watchingthedead.blogspot.co.uk/ Any zombie film fans? Last edited by Aboobie; 31-08-2012 at 20:09. |

Good lad!
I've watched a couple more films since Dead Snow. The Dead (there's a theme emerging on the name front). A west african traditional zombie fest with great gore and drama set against a beautiful back drop but gets a bit samey and boring... 6/10 Pontypool An intelligent well crafted tight not-really-a-zombie film with a depending on how you look at it highbrow existential or complete and utter nonsense narrative. 7/10 Quite enjoyed both though there's plenty better. |
