Ah yes, the lovely Side-by-side assemblies folder. Microsoft claim explorer lies about its size. Microsoft, consider your bluff called. 10GB. :/ Their only redemption is that, from one of their blogs, it looks like they might have woken up and got a clue with Windows 7.

Same. I've had this laptop for a year though and it's only really become an issue because it looks like, for my sins, I'll have to install VB6, Oracle 11, and possibly VS2008. Bye bye disk space. :/

System restore is turned off, and i can only assume CCleaner will have removed all the gumpf it leaves around... I've given up to be fair, i get i'll just have to wait untill i really can be bothered to format. Live and learn, Vista obviously needs at least 30Gb to get along happy...

I give XP a 40gb partition and I still have to clean that to try and keep it 50% (not sure if you still get a performance drop with limited space on these modern drives produced after 1990?). I'd probably invest in a new HD and give Vista 100gb.

To be honest though, I think Windows eventually consumes anything, more space just makes it take longer. And newer windows speed that entire process up.
