If you look carefully, you can pick up an early Mk1 Elise for under 6k.

Or, if you're going to keep it for a while, crash-repaired clamshell damage only ones can be got for as little as 4.5k

Yes Flib, it was a C70 soft top I saw (admittedly at the top end of the budget). After thinking 'I cant have a softtop!' I thought why the hell cant I?!

My main 'wants' are -

Newer rather than older
Solid car (this is where the Mini falls down for me. If it was just for me I wouldn't hesitate but with three kiddlies...it just feels too dinky..? I might have a look anyway though)
Easy to fix (MtE can fix most things so something that has to be wired into NASA before you can change the tyre is no use)
FUN! (read FAST!)
and cheaper to run than what I have now...a 2.7TD Nissan Terrano II

I really would look at the C70 coupe's instead of the droptops.
The droptops suffer because they're heavier, chassis flexes and the rear seat space suffers

The C70 in gold is a sexalicous car. *for a grandad mobile *
Plus the 2.3Turbo engine is reliable and produces ~225bhp from memory. The T5 is a gem.

I'd seriously try to look at the Alfa 166 though. It's a wafter rather than a nutter, but is such a beautiful place to be and a beautiful car. Plus the V6 engine has shiny chrome metal bits and sounds great

Lovely cars, but not wallet friendly to fix. Person at work has had 3 turbo's in a year.

They look superb.

My sister has one on order. I'm waiting to see if they do a nutter version. 3l V6 from Alfa, tuned a bit, call it the Arbarth..

BIG WHEELS!

I thought of this last night with SAAB's. They are great on the road until something goes wrong, then you get hit with premium price repairs. Although they are cracking motors to keep one on a road would be rather costly so I would be motioning against them at the moment for K.
