I'm convinced that the laptop manufacturers ramp up the price of replacement batteries and make sure that they are in short supply to "encourage" you to replace an entire otherwise perfectly serviceable laptop.

This is true. I am suitably ashamed. However I had budgeted for a new phone this year so most of the money was set aside. Still makes me a bit of a **** though.
