Mondo - have you tried 'air display' yet? It lets you run the iPad as a second monitor for your Mac. For me that'd be perfect for having email/calendar visible all the time and not having to switch displays using spaces (or hyperspaces in my case)

I think if you the net on the move a lot, and have the £500 or so to throw at it then it's great. I don't have a contract phone so I am not paying 2 line rental, and I commute to work so I get at least 3 hrs of use from it on the train a day. That's why I got one, I will use it. Buying it and sit on ya bum in the sofa at home however is a bit much I think.

I've not used it myself but a chap I know has and he says that there is a very slight delay but nothing that he finds an issue.

Content is king. If people make great content that you can only get from an iPad then it'll sell. Sure the Wired app is a clone of their print edition but the level of interactivity added makes it very appealing.
I got a netbook, the Acer Aspire 1 when it was £150, with a view to lug it around all the time. I mean why not? Its tiny. That idea didn't last long. Its tiny compared to my Macbook Pro but its still a bit of a lump with about 2, maybe 3 hours battery life. I haven't used that in a year or so. But the iPad is so sleek it just slips into my bag and doesn't feel overly heavy. I can wander around town with my GF1 and iPad in my bag quite nicely. Take some photos. Stop off at a wifi coffee shop and enjoy some casual browsing in a way that doesn't feel cramped like on the iPhone. Last night I met my gf at the local tea bar thing where she knits with friends. I used the time to catch up on some articles I had Instapaper'd through the day. Same for Monday. Went to the pub for tea. She knit, I twittered and browsed n stuff. It never feels like I'm lugging it along. It doesn't feel like I'm getting out a clunky laptop that could be a bit rude to use in a pub. If I got out a 15'' MBP and started browsing, tweeting etc well its a big device. It could seem like I'm lost in it. But the iPad is about the size of a book. Its easy to put down, or maintain a conversation with. Of course thats all in my head. The way I'm perceiving things. We're both laptop users and do disappear behind them at the table, but are still able to chat happily without resorting to "You love that damned laptop more than me!" But the iPad really feels completely unobtrusive.
