Well between the Dell 2007WFP, Dell 2407WFP and LG L204WT you've got quite a range of price and performance to contend with really. The 2007WFP is pretty popular right now and offers some good all round performance. This is obviously in direct competition with the L204WT but uses a completely different panel technology, being S-IPS based as opposed to TN Film (panel tech info here for reference). The Dell therefore offers some noticeable advantages over the L204WT including much wider viewing angles (S-IPS are truly very wide, whereas TN Film is pretty restrictive, especially vertically). Colour quality is also superior since the Dell uses an 8-bit panel, whereas the LG uses 6-bit (albeit with Frame Rate Control / Dithering to improve available colour palette). In practice there may not be much noticable different, but S-IPS is widely regarded as the panel tech of choice for graphics / colour enthusiasts, so the Dell may well hold the advantage here.

The 2007WFP is pretty comparable to the LG in terms of responsiveness (dont be fooled by the difference in quoted response times here), movie playback (neither particularly brilliant in this regard tbh), and black depth. Black depth is actually one of the wek points of S-IPS, and the LG may even hold the slight advantage here since it features LG's Digital Fine Contrast, a form of dynamic contrast control which can improve contrast ratios / black depth on the fly for gaming and multimedia applications. Both are good screens though, and well price, just trying to give you a comparison as best I can of their pros and cons. The Dell also has more functionality and a wider range of interfaces which may or may not be beneficial to you in your use.

The Dell 2407WFP is a different kettle of fish again. Obviously the extra size and resolution is very nice for office use, gaming, movies, everything really. Performance is very good all round, with decent responsiveness, 8-bit colour depth and decent colour accuracy, and wide viewing angles. Viewing angles are not quite as wide as S-IPS (Dell 2007WFP), but black depth is superior (the 2407WFP is based on a Samsung S-PVA panel btw). Again, good functionality and connectivity. If you can stretch to this model, it is well worth considering. As Stan said, we spoke about this kind of situation a while ago and he's been very happy with his 2405FPW (as i have with mine for that matter). Obv it's a fair amount more though, so if you do want to stick to something less extravagent, the 20"WS models are decent still.

what are you planning to use the screen for btw? Hopefully some of the above helps seperate the models in terms of pros and cons though

A great reply, and very helpful.

It's for general home use, bit of mail, bit of photo editing, bit of everything really. The main thing on it as it's going to be my main screen is Eve which isn't a fast paced game by any means. I'm unlikely to be playing movies.

The 24" will just fit in the space so it's all down to how much I can justify spending on it.

For general use, i'd say they will all be fine really. Just see whether you can justify the extra for the 24" or not. if you need any advice or anything just give me a shout too....

Still no reply back from Mr. Dell. I suspect he's too busy trying to sort out the £108K order of mine he totally stuffed up.

Yep. Not the biggest order I've pushed their way either, I think that was about £215k.

Well with an order that size, I'd imagine he'd be bending over backwards to help you out so therefore any figure he finally comes through with should be incredibly competitive.

"Hey Mr. Account Manager, sort me out a price for a 2407 to keep me happy"

"Right o. [looks at size of current order on screen] *pause*. Is fifty quid too much?"

I think someone somewhere has made a mistake. I asked our European Dell buyer for prices for these.

2007 - 440€
2407 - 660€

So I asked our UK supplier (not direct through Dell)

2007 - £230
2407 - £630

I think the second price for the 2407 looks more realistic, I think Hen in Holland may have got something slightly wrong.
