Yesterday afternoon (while I was trying to sleep) there was this absolutely monstrous BOOM that rattled the house. At the same time both alarm clocks chirped (momentary power loss). This of course woke me out of a dead sleep (four days prior I had been running on 2 hours of sleep a day or less).
I got up, went to the window and looked outside to see what was going on. At that exact moment I was rendered blind and deaf from the lightning strike less than 100 feet from me. Dumbass me stuck around to watch several more bolts fall within 250 yards before realising just how stupid I was being and went back to bed. The surprising thing is my son didn't wake up at all. My first thought with the initial one was that he was downstairs playing on my computer and had found some cannon shot sound effect or something. I then saw his blanket rising and falling with his breathing (and the echoes from the thunderclap finalised my assessment of what the sound was). Was rather interesting to watch it from up close and being inside this time. When I was younger, I was in the center of a group that was struck by a 12 pronged bolt. Not something I ever want to see, feel, nor hear again, but it still fascinates me.
