I (or anybody else) shall clarify no further than the following statement: "I wear an extra sock." [the end]

I didnt mean to pluralise mine (either). Its for practical as opposed to posing reasons!

Crikey!!! I have no need for an extra sock

VLM training going well thanks. It's taken over my life somewhat I don't seem to do much else apart from work, sleep, run & eat at the moment. Loving it though. Running club tonight and we have a track session, so it's long speed reps. OUCH!! Not looking forward for it, but I know it's good for me

I went out tonight with a friend who wants to get into running beyond the tedium of the gym treadmill- They have never reached a second wind stage and always found themselves too exhausted after 10/12minutes to keep going, despite being a bit of a gym-goer.

I set the pace as very slow, and went off on a reasonably interesting (compared to treadmill) route for a planned 10/12 minutes outbound. At mid point I offered the option of a small hill, that we could turn around and coast back down if she found it too much, but she had found some respiro-relief by this point and pushed on through

We hit home at 24minutes and I'm sure she was chuffed to bits - she knows things will improve for her and is very keen to get further into running so I'm feeling good too

My charity running vest / trainer tshirt came through the post this week also so I'm even more motivated and really looking forward to my wednesday hour, and my saturday morning rural route

Sounds like she just needed slowing down a bit. Nice one. I enjoy runnng with others, especially if it's a slow one so you can chat.

Apart from my league races (mix of xc & road), I have a 16 mile cross country, the kilomathon (26.2km), the Ashby 20 and a half mara before the big VLM. Eek!!!

My 17 miler on sat was an absolute joy. Already have 18.5 miles planned for this w/e, which finishes at my folks' house. The good thing about the big distances is much more interesting routes. It's great

I'm planning a long slow rural run saturday morning so I can go some interesting near by routes that I don't have to worry about being lit!

I'm considering heading off and then asking PG to pick me up at my end destination - this way I shouldn't have to run over repeat ground etc etc

Cool Cheers Jen. I'm still at the stage where I won't pay for any aps, but I do have iMapMyRun. My Garmin does all my pace/distance/heart rate stuff, but it's good to have something in case I forget my watch or the battery runs out.

Glad you are emjoying your running Kate. I've been interested in your progress. If you are enjoying your 17 miles runs then you have become quite an established runner.

I managed to run 100m the other day.. That's meters not miles

@ Huddy!

I'm running regularly 3/4 times a week now and comfortably cover an hour each time

I don't run fast by any means, I'm very much a jogger, but I'm still out there enjoying it and reaping the satisfaction and health/appearance benefits

I have a 10k in Lincoln mid march'ish and then I'm going in for an absolute SOD of a race - the Harptree Havoc; 10k completely offroad - hills, water, rubble, burning hay bayles and all sorts of trouble I'm told = should be fun even if I do come last!!

Emma's friend has started coming with me now also and runs between 25-50 minutes a few times a week which is great company

Got a major 'testicling' from my Dad that I was running in 4 year old Skylons despite only running about a year, then having 3 years off apparently they're now useless so I'm finding some new ones asap
