Well I'll be damned. Wrapped the Xbox in a towel while we watched a film on DVD, and after about an hour or so the two left quadrants were flashing red indicating the Xbox was overheating. I turned it off and back on again, and decided to have a quick go of Skate to see how it was doing. An hour later, I switched the Xbox off again to watch the rest of the film, and the Xbox was still fine when I did it.

Amazed does not even come close to my reaction. I'm still fully expecting my Xbox to die properly at some point, but if it will play for an hour or so a day then I can play Skate 2 enough to review it while my spare Xbox is being repaired. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway!

Talk about impeccable timing. My Elite finally gave up the ghost yesterday, showing the two red lights from the moment you switch it on (yet strangely it was fine for a 6 hour session on Sunday). I figured I'd be without an Xbox for a while and was wondering what games I can play to keep me busy.

Then my fixed Premium Xbox turned up today \o/ Time to buy the bits I need to try and fix my Elite, as MS won't fix that for free at a guess (though I'll ring them first to confirm).

I'm considering an Elite for christmas.

Mum asked me last week when I was home what, if anything, I wanted for christmas this year. I didn't really have a clue, but now I'm thinking an xbox would be good. The best deal I've seen so far was @ Game - £199 with MW2 and Forza. These are pretty much the only games I'll need/want so that I can actually play games online against people i know again! the PS3's online side isn't sociable enough for me

Anybody know if there are better deals to be had? and have the fail rates got better over the past few years? my last one died about 2 years ago and i've not had anything to do with them since.

oh, and can you transfer data from an old HDD to a new one?

I'll still have all my data on my old 20gb disk

To be fair if you're not worried about moving saves across just log into live from your new console and redownload everything.
