Found one of the easy songs I can do quite well and am using it to get my hands and eyes working together - Hit a 230 note streak with 88k points on it, only missing 10 notes.
My left hand aches!

One thing - I've noticed that some of the notes have stars around the borders, what's the difference, I can't find anything in the manual about it.

Those notes give you star power. When you've collected enough of them you'll get a message on screen saying 'Star power ready' (or similar). You can then tild the guitar so that the neck is vertical and you'll be using the star power - notes are worth double what they are normally so you can have upto an 8x multiplier.
When you've got a long note (so you're holding down the button) with a star around it wiggle the whammy bar and you'll get even more star power from it. There's a useful bit about star power in the tutorials. While you're in there do the hammer on and pull off tutorials too, they're really useful. |

I find that if I try to do them then I fluff them up but I often find myself doing them without noticing.

Practise playing Jessica, it's an excellent song for hammer ons and pull offs. There are times in the song you can hit 15 different notes in a row and only strum the first one. Great finger workout, and on different difficulties a good way to practise at different speeds too

Ahhhhh, I only did the first tutorial so I didn't get to hammering and pulling off (fnarr) - I see that completing all three is an achievement so I'll finish them off tonight.

I had a bash this evening and kept saying 'just one more song', knowing there wasn't many to go until I completed Easy! Jessica was an absolute pain, even on the easy setting, I haven't really got a clue about the two techniques I learned in the next two tutorials, but it'll come.
Chords and the extra button are giving me a hard time now as I'm tired after the three solid hours I've been playing so I'm off to bed having done just two tunes on Medium (I hit my first 1000 gamerscore today, yay!) Oh what fun
