When I was a young chap looking to do some "morning after strutting" the thought of bringing the internet into the bar was unheard of and wouldn't have entered the conversation.
Yet so often now, one of the things I hear from drunk people or those who've had lots, is "are you on [Facebook/Myspace/zzzz]", I'm sure a whole lot things happen that way (i.e. get to *know* somebody) before e.g. another meeting. Therefore now I think that the net is a really important cog for the whole scene in general.

I met some former SO's online. I liked it...I got to know the person they were before being distracted by their physical hotness or not so hotness.
I met Garp in person though:-)
