If you'd seen it I hope you'd remember it, it is one of the greatest films of the past couple of decades, almost certainly one of the greatest ever.
I've deliberately avoided this film on more than a few occasions now, it's got to the stage where the only reason I'll watch it is if I'm tied to a chair and even then I'd try and fall asleep instead. There are quite a few films that I want to/should watch but haven't got round to because I fear I won't do them justice if I simply try and fit them in an odd couple of hours. Godfather Trilogy, the Dollars Trilogy, Citizen Kane, the Manchurian Candidate, The Magnificent Seven, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dog Day Afternoon, The Deer Hunter and a fair few more that I can't remember just now. I actually own copies of most of them but it comes down to finding a suitable length of time and me being in the right mood to watch them all. It's odd though, I've probably seen thousands of films thus far and for one reason or another I haven't got round to watching quite a few of the 'classics'. I only ended up watching Casablanca for the first time a few months back - big error of judgement not having watched it before.

I think I saw the start, then fell asleep and woke up at the end. I have no earthly idea what the film is about.

It's Number 1 on IMDb and I've never seen it outside the top 2 in over 5 years. |

There are only 2 films in the IMDB top 50 that I haven't seen and both of them are quite near the bottom of the list

True but with all due respect to the public I wouldn't put it at #1, both Casablanca and 12 Angry Men are better films. That is without including the films I haven't yet seen which could also supercede it. It is one of the all time greats but not the best as far as I'm concerned.

I think the same of much of Stanley Kubrick's work. I'll admit he was a pioneer and a great director, but he's a bit of an acquired taste. I'm not sure I'll ever acquire it though.

Have seen a handful of the above but certainly need to pull my socks up and see more!
Mei - I seriously need you to watch Star Wars!!!! It's SUPERB! Girls always shame me for this but I have never seen... Dirty Dancing. Apparently this makes me not a woman! I've only recently seen Top Gun too - which made Goose's name make sense. I just thought he was comparing himself to a feathery sqwaky flying creature Also need to see's that I don't think have been mentioned yet: Scarface (I have it on doovd!! I just haven't watched it yet!!) The Great Escape (I always see the end on toovd! Grr!) Breakfast at Tiffanys Oh and if people haven't seen Scent of a Woman - SEE IT! Pachino is GENIUS in it |
