So why do people have DB surnames when they get married? Does the woman not want to get rid of her maiden name, but wants to prove she has actually taken the plunge? I dont get it, no way will I have a DB surname, my name is long enough as it is

if this is a facebook rant...

why add someone and give them 'restricted access' - i delete everyone who does that, so you like me enough to want to pretend we're friends, but nothing more - oh thanks, that's 'friendship' i can do without

people from my year at school who i knew, but haven't spoken to in years (if i ever spoke to them) that add me - what?! i don't care about what you're doing now, and it'd be pretty creepy if you've suddenly taken an interest in me!

'myspace angles' - airbrushing your photos and pouting into the camera, who are you trying to impress?! so you want everyone you went to school with to think you're now a smoking fox - haha!

people who broadcast their fickle and pointless relationships - yesterday 'love you stu', today 'you're my man, dan' - eurgh!

awful, boring, often tasteless applications - what?! no i don't want to 'e-smell your armpits' or whatever that app want me to do - yuck! :P

----

but saying that - i like using it to keep in touch with old friends, especially since we've moved away. it's also useful for remembering peoples birthdays (i'm no good at that) and i like nosing through peoples photos!!
i'm pretty bad at adding people though, if i dont recognize the name, i just delete without looking, i think i've accidentally offended a few people oops!

@Dee - for a lot of people, if the family name dies out with an only daughter, then the double barrell keeps the surname alive. Like when my nan goes there will be no more of her line left Sometimes people just wants to show off though and have a db name because they think it makes them look posh. Other times the woman may have an established career and not want to change names and lose the recognition. I'd just keep my maiden name, but some want it ALL!!
This was one of the reasons we DB out names, H is an only Daughter, so we both wanted to keep the name going.

I dont care, people can call me pretentious if they like.

I kept my surname and db'd in respect for my Dad, who died. No other reason :-)

Funnily enough as I read through this thread, I thought the exact same thing for the future

Oh and I use Facebook to keep in touch with friends, mainly old workfriends, people I went to Uni with, then people I went to Uni with for my Masters etc. I'm rubbish at keeping in touch with people so anything that can help just a tiny bit is handy for me
I only add people I know so not fussed about the information those people can see. I don't tend to add many photos though due to laziness more than anything

Reason #1 is Scrabble.

Reason #2 is to look at photos of hot girls.
