You can use iPod and Navigon at the same time. Set home button double tap to launch iPod, run iPod, run navigon and then double tap home to get iPod controls. Not done it myself but heard about it. apparently Navigon will just continue to run in the background, even continuing to give out verbal instructions. Don't see why TomTom won't do similar.

My understanding was that it would have access to the Live routing system which is only on the high end TomTom units and as long as this I don't have to pay a massive subscription I would say that would be worth the dosh.
By "live routing", I presume you mean the traffic info system?

Read a review of the latest, top-end TT device the other day which blasted them for charging a monthly subscription for this service on a device which already costs hundreds and I tended to agree. Would be interesting to see how they handle this on the iPhone version as, whilst it could make use of your existing data connection, Trafficmaster (assuming that's who they're using) still want paying for the data so this revenue will have to come from somewhere.

It's fairly easy to get hold of SatNav with lifetime traffic updates, though I can't remember if there's the option to do that with any of the TomTom units.

The new TomTom system doesn't use Trafficmaster it references other units traveling on the same road to get a 'live' road speed and compensates accordingly. It requires a SIM in the unit something which is already built into the iPhone. The iPhone version has the potential to be very powerful, whether it will be or not remains to be seen.

Interesting solution. Does have the power to be more "up to date" than the Trafficmaster TMC system and also cover smaller roads but also depends on the number of people out there using it.

Personally I find TMC utterly fantastic. Yes it sometimes misses things if you happen upon them very soon after they've occurred but in general it's superb and has saved my bacon more times than I can count.

Didn't know I could get Google Maps on my current phone. How did I not know about this?

Installed and working great (though I don't have GPS so it locates to the base station). Only problem - battery was showing 70% before I installed. Five minutes later - 20%

Still going to get a new phone but it gives me a chance to play.

Good spot but like isn't a word I'd use. I got absolutely destroyed first game and gave up. I'm sure I'll try again sometime. It was a freebie so what the heck.

Anyone know of any good UK-based forums dedicated to the iPhone?
