Well that has been a fairly uneventful Halloween, I'm back already because all I did was go round to a friends, have a take-away and some beer to watch a film. Haven't really seen hide nor hair of trick or treaters which is probably just as well since I had no sweeties to give them.

Happy Halloween to everyone though.

Really don't like Hallowe'en and have never really celebrated it either. It's completely spoilt by chavs chucking eggs/flour all over the place and knocking on doors intimidating people. I taped up the letter box to stop any eggs being pushed through. Had my car egged last year and it took ages to get off, so I really hope nothing's happened to the Silvia. Was at the gym last night, but Leon said some chavs hammered hell out of our door before saying "No-one in", in a gruff voice and going. The lights were off until 9ish though, so that's all we had.

I wouldn't mind if it was sweet little kids coming round with their parents. I'd even bake some biscuits or something. But it's not, so the door stays shut and the lights stay off.

Agree with you Kate - but I didn't realise there was an actual Pagan celebration of it. To me it's all a bit of a waste of time, but for kids I can imagine it being quite fun, but not in this world we live in these days. I chased down 3 people last year who egged our front door because we didn't have any sweets (wtf would we buy some?!) besides they were at least 17 - I'm not proud to say that I did catch up to one of them and did give him a heck of a fright, they never came back.

To me all these traditions are spoilt by greed, commercialism and material values. I know we should make the effort to ensure that it doesn't get worse but some people take a whole yard if you give 'em just an inch. A lot of these things have lost their magic for me - which is why I'd rather spend it with friends and family and not bother doing public communal things.

Awwwww MAN! I love halloween... but then we don't really have chavs knocking on our door.

I am well sad. Only two wee girlies - who looked SUPERB - turned up last night

This means we have bags of sweeties and milkybar buttons (thank you belmit!) left.

Looks like we'll just have to eat them all up ourselves.

When I was younger we'd have halloween parties and the neighbours would come round and there'd be toffee apples and apple dunking and dressing up and the "scarey room" and silly games, red-dyed cakes with goo in the middle and and and we'd have all the lights changed so they had green and red bulbs on them and and and we'd pumpkin carve and have competitions and...

Ooooh it was FUN!

Isn't halloween supposed to be the celebration of the end of the summery/warmish seasons and the start of winter? Something that the celtics or someone did?

There isn't a Pagan celebration 'of' Hallowe'en, as usual we were there first, celebrating Samhain as the end of Summer and the start of Winter. When other religions tried to stamp us out they renamed most of the festivals but kept them around the same time, fortunately.

I know a few people who had bad experiences last night and it makes them think negatively of it. I had a great night and today is the start of a new year
