If it's the sort of thing that's going to be an 18th birthday present, I doubt it'll get drunk anyway so it doesn't really matter what it is.

I've completed the bottle I had, not opening any more as I've got to drive in the morrow.

Have you thought about Whisky instead? Might be easier to store and more likely to last the required time without issues. I don't know enough to recommend one but I'm sure Stan could offer some advice if needed.
