GeIL is OK but nothing special. I've used OCZ, Corsair, and Crucial over recent years - none of which have caused me any grief. With prices the way they are the difference between top and bottom end isn't much.

crucial seems expensive? is 4 gig overkill? whilst here - may also upgrade from the onboard gfx... but need something pretty quiet for a media computer... any suggestions?? I'm surprised to see some geforce 9 cards for less than £40... which seem tempting... |

I get whoever I can find cheapest out of Corsair, GeIL or Crucial most of the time, with a slight preference to Corsair. I tend to avoid OCZ as i've seen too many funny niggly compatibility problems with recent systems.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductID=894897 It's very far from top of the line, but I'm sure it'll drive a media PC no problem at all, and you can't get quieter than passive (though it's a good idea to ensure your system cooling is up to the job). |

this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168749 but its not passively cooled.. same for this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149112/ but neither really match up for the price... should I go ATi? or have I opened a can of worms? Last edited by Pickers; 25-07-2009 at 09:01. |

An ATI card with Nvidia is no issue, I used to do it with the NForce 4 motherboards and an ATI X1900XTX. Given what you will be using the machine for, I would just go passive, either brand is not going to make a difference really.
What case do you have? For passive cooled stuff you will need some airflow around the case. |
