Thing is you've just hit the nail on the head. It's a predominantly male frequented forum. It's no different to pub talk or locker room talk. I'll admit now I've been guilty of joining in on the "she's minging" or "I wouldn't touch her with yours" or other such degrading comments. It's a harsh thing that blokes do. It's just the way it is. Women bitch and moan about men just as much behind closed doors - it's just in this instance it's public. It's a shame it's so visible and it's a shame it's offending my friends, but it's just the way it is I'm afraid I want to say sorry, but it's not my fault.

In this case, when you've just been told to look at a picture of Miss England, you immediately have a mental image of a slim, toned, tanned 'perfect' woman. That's what these contests are about to most people. When the person you then see is a long way from the expectation you had, the effect of 'repulsion' (for lack of a better word atm) is multiplied. Much the same as if you went to look at a car that had been described as pristine, you'd be expecting an immaculate car, with excellent paint work, good as new interior etc. If it was less than this when you got there, even if it was just a few stone chips, dirty mats and stuff, your impression of the car would be wholly more negative than if you had been expecting a few chips etc. When you then throw the internet into the mix, with it's anonymity, childishness etc. combined with a large contingent of adolescent males, it's hardly surprising.

The thing that annoys me most is that they are mostly going to be peeps who would die to go out with someone like her, but would never get the chance.
Also why do the majority of guys have to be complete and utter twats about woman's appearances and why is it that important? When it comes to men though they can get away with being whatever they want to look like, there is no one saying men have to look a certain way, should feel bad if they don't? Why is it just woman that have to look a certain way? A majority of the peeps on OcUK are jerks and that is why I don't even bother with over there anymore

What I want to know, in all seriousness here, is why people are using pasty lover as an insult and taking it as a derogatory remark?
I LOVE pastys. My stomach in rumbling at the thought of them. The emmets on OcUK are being incredibly blasphemous over a food that is very dear to me. I am a pasty lover. That is my crime? |

i really hope that the majority of the population don't base their relationships purely on looks, but when it comes to a 'beauty pageant' you will always view it with certain expectations when it comes to the way the women are going to look. |

What's with all the long threads today?
I made sure I read the whole thing before posting (in not a very serious way) over there and I understand your anger Pheebs, and I also think you put your thoughts across well In fact, it was so serious and clever, I had to check the sig a few times to check it was you Just didn't hear the usual craziness Anyway, that said, I think Will pretty much hits the nail on the head. It's a male thing, mainly young male thing admittedly but it's something that is expected when you enter those types of threads over there. I'm not defending it btw but I think people need to take such threads with a pinch of salt rather than taking it to heart so much. I know it's hard at times, but that's when you have to remember that regardless of anyones opinion no-one is perfect and every person here is cared about. *hugs*
