Not really fussed about an unlock as I'll always be with O2.

The iPhone dev team have released a new version of Pwnage tool that works with 3.1.2. I'll grab a copy of it later and give it a try.

Might give that a try later. I can always downgrade to 3.0 if it breaks (thanks to saurik for that little trick).

EVERY piece of software can be broken given enough time and resources.

Nobody wants to
I'm sure there would be a way if people set their mind on it. Is there anything special that Garmin do that other software companies don't? I mean, people crack all sorts of software from small apps to DVD encryption. I can't see Garmin being THAT special that they've found the foolproof way.

Garmin's activation procedure seems well designed and secure. Given enough time someone could probably create a keygen or crack the firmware, but there just isn't the reward so no-one bothered.
Apple, on the other hand, make schoolboy errors in their security that lets hackers walk all over it. For example, the simple replay attacks that have been used to allow people to downgrade at will are so obvious and incredibly easy to defend against, but Apple didn't. If they wanted to shut the community out properly, they could. For example, they could very easily ban jailbroken phones from iTunes and the App Store, but they don't for one very good reason - the community makes them money. I'm the classic example of that - my iPhone is jailbroken but I still use the App Store, regularly. Last edited by Mark; 13-10-2009 at 12:51. |

Makes you appreciate the more sympathetic approach of HTC really. They wont support you, but they dont play stupid cat and mouse games either.
