What sort of games does he like?
If he palys RPGs I'd go with Fallout 3 it is excellent! Since I bought a 360 I haven't really used a PC for gaming but there are a few PC gamers about  MB |

The PC version of Fallout 3 shipped with a large number of bugs. I'm one of the 'few' (according to Bethesda) who can't even get past the first few moments of the opening cutscene. 6 weeks since release and still no patch available from Bethesda.
There are also random crashes to desktop, stuttering, bugged quests etc How about Spore or Far Cry 2?

COD5 isn't a patch on COD4 and thats best if he's going to play online. I like the COD games but I find that unless your going to play online they are a bit short.

Left 4 Dead is definitely the top online PC game at the moment, offline it's probably (in my opinion, is), Football Manager 2009 if he loved footy, or Fallout 3.
