42" TV for PS3 gaming - up to £700

Right, I've got a shortlist of TV's that I've been looking at in the last few days and am really not sure on what to get for gaming purposes mostly.
Here seem the best place to ask about gaming

(old series) Toshiba 42X3030D, 1080p LCD - £550 at play.com
(new series) Toshiba 42XV555D, 1080p LCD - £600 at various places
Panasonic TH42PX80, 720p Plasma - £550 with 5 year warranty at richersounds
Panasonic TH42PZ80, 1080p plasma - around £700


Ideally I'd like to be able to keep this TV till it goes kaput, so I'm not sure on the 720p plasma still, wouldn't want to get stuck with old technology in a year or two's time if I can help it.

I've been told however that the 720p panasonic has fantastic picture quality, what are plasmas like for long session gaming?

We have the TH-42PX80B which is excellent and I have been playing lots with little or no retention.

you can currently get it for £499 at currys bargaintastic!

The currys price doesn't include 5 year warranty but get RS to price match

it's £499 at richersounds without the warranty, but I'd happily pay £50 for a 5 year warranty especially seeing as my current TV has died within 5 months

Ah didn't know the price at RS. All I can say is it has been great for us and we've had it nearly 6 months.

I hate that term, I suppse what I'm asking is - in a couple of years will I be told "if you had the 1080p set you'd be able to see x,y&z" or "you need the 1080p set for that"

Plasma ftw.

You'll only begin to get burn issues if you're playing the same game for like 6 hours a day every day with no other usage for the screen at all.

Because it is truly 1080p rather than a mock 720p

It's also best if you want to use a PC with it.

Currently about 6-7ft, but moving to a new house in a month or so - not sure on distance there, will be further than 7ft

What do you mean about the first part?

I won't be using a PC with it for gaming or working, probably just plug my macbook into it for visualisations if I have a party.
