G20 protests this week

Not looking forward to this, working right in the middle of the Square Mile 'n all. I'm not sure what to do as: I expect public transport to be pretty screwed up and I don't want to cycle in case my bike gets vanadilsed or I get stuck in the crowds. Work have sent a few emails round saying that all the doors will be locked and we all have to go round the back entrance (fnar). One thing is for sure, I'm not turning up in my work clothes in case I get targeted. Not that I expect any trouble but you never know. If only I could work from home!

Surprised some places in the City are opening tbh, sounds like it's going to be a right couple of days. Do you work somewhere that has to have staff in no matter what?

I work in Desktop Support so we always have to be in. Hopefully at least it will be quiet (in work that is!).

****ing morons the lot of 'em.. As i said elsewhere, i saw a group of anti-capitalist demonstrators collecting their winings from a bookies. ****ing hypercrites.

Our work issued warning instructions around this saying we could either work remotely or re-arrange meetings. Now surely your place would operate reduced hours? I imagine "I fear for my safety" in coming to work going through a mob of protesters should carry some weight.

edit:- Do you have a backup location? The good that could come of this is for the London companies to test their backup office plans while this is on.

G20 Anti Globalisation Protests expected in the City of London
The upcoming G20 Summit starts on the 2nd April in the Excel Centre in the Docklands. We have been advised that a number of protests are planned by various groups on the 1st and 2nd April in and around the City.
There are certain things we in London Branch can plan to help staff and to keep any disruptions to a minimum. Therefore we suggest the following for both days:
Cancel unnecessary meetings on both days
General Dress Down Policy for all staff members
Avoid confrontation with protesters. It is suggested that lunch and snacks are brought to work to avoid having to go out lunchtime.
Different working hours where possible. Demonstrations which could affect us are expected as follows: 1st April: 11am Meeting at Liverpool Street followed by march on the Bank of England and to no.62 and no. 280 Bishopsgate. 2nd April: Demonstration in Bishopsgate. There are other demonstrations expected but not currently known.
Avoid Bank Station, exits near the Bank of England and Liverpool Street Station exits into Bishopsgate and Liverpool Street. These could get busy or blocked at certain periods during the day.
The Facilities Team will take necessary steps to ensure Bavaria House is safe in case some of the protests spread in our direction.
We have also been assured that there is a full policing plan in place.

I remember at JH Schroder, some protestor managed get into the trading floor.. They beat the **** out of him.

Not even been told to dress down yet. No reduced hours and I am right outside Bank station
