New puppies.
Our Rottweiler is now the proud mother of seven new puppies.
Labour started last night and she initially had five pups (three male and two female). During the night she stopped giving birth yet it was apparent that she still had more puppies to come. First thing this morning we took her to the vet where they carried out a caesarean and found another four males. Unfortunately two of the four males had died when they became stuck in the womb though the other two were fine. Mum and pups are now back at home and are resting. |

I will grab some pictures later on. Kaya is resting now so we are trying not to disturb her.
This was her first litter (and last - just wanted her to have at least one set). She made a good aunt when our Shar Peil had her first litter almost this time last year (pictures on my Flickr link of those). |

As far as I know they are definitely keeping there tails. It is against the law to dock tails from April 2007 excluding certain exemptions for working dogs. Quote:
The heaviest are ~1lb and the lightest are around ~1/2lb. Put that in comparison to the Shar Pei litter last year where the heaviest was ~1 1/2lbs and the lightest was ~1lb. Last edited by Zico; 12-04-2009 at 22:09. |

Our previous male Rottweiler and Doberman were both docked (when picked up as puppies and long before the change in law). Kaya is also docked though unfortunately for her the tail was docked too short and she had an abscess under the skin which needed a minor operation and antibiotics to clear up.
Kaya is a softy (as were our male Rottweiler and Doberman). When we come home she is so happy to see us that she calls out to us in her finest Chewbacca impression . |

Two weeks old now and the bundles of joy are starting to become little mobile pee'ing machines.
