Anybody work with MS Project?
Looking for some help here. I'm trying to plan a project while waiting to get on to the rig and I'm a bit stumped. I've never used it before and I'm trying to find my way through it - thankfully, it doesn't need to be too pretty.
On this project we will be using contracted in welders who will be paid for on a day rate. I need to calculate the cost for welders on a day by day basis i.e., I need to be able to assign the cost of a full day on any day a welder is used - regardless of how many hours he works. If I put the cost in as a cost per day, Project automatically breaks down the cost according to how many hours the welder works so, if he only works 6 hours in a day, he is only costed at 1/4 of the day rate. If I put in the cost as per use, Project automatically adds the full day rate for each task the welder undertakes on that day so, if the welder is involved in three tasks in a day of 2 hours each, it costs it as three day rates. I need it to cost welders at £x per day regardless of how many hours he works or how many jobs he does in a day. Anybody able to shed any light on this for me? Also, does anybody know of any good books I can read when I'm home? I'm finding this quite interesting and I wouldn't mind learning a bit more about it so I can do it properly.

Afraid I've not looked into using MS Project (although it's something I am going to need to do for work!), but I do have e-copies of Project 2007 for Dummies and the AIO Desk Reference for Dummies if you're interested

If you can upload them somewhere or send them to me, I'd be grateful enough to buy you a beer or two next time we meet
