Default Snow Leopard?

So who's going to be getting it? I just placed my pre-order so with a bit of luck it'll be waiting for me when I get home from holiday.

I'll have to buy the whole package as I'm still running Tiger.

Tempting, but I'd need a new hard drive too so the upgrade will cost me £200 when I'm probably going to upgrade soon anyway... hmmmmm.

I'm still on Tiger too. Updates have just about dried up now so I guess that's our lot. Didn't see anything to make me want to upgrade last time and I doubt I will this time. In fact, I don't even know what's coming so ignorance is bliss.

I sold my original MacBook 2 years ago. So i have been away from the Mac world since then but on Saturday i had a spontaneous moment and bought this.....

Girl in the Apple Store told me i'd get Snow Leopard free (excluding P&P). So i'm not gonna turn my nose up to that. Placed my order for it last night. So was surprised to see it's released this week.

As for my MBP. Absolutely loving it. The battery life alone is worlds apart from my Sony Vaio laptop. I nearly walked out with a 24" iMac too as the missus loved it so much.

Huge shrinkage of code amongst other things. They're stripping out all sorts of stuff from it so the binaries are reportedly drastically smaller. They're dropping all support for PowerPC from this point onwards. Example reduction in size shows the Mail app being around 100Mb instead of 300Mb, whilst adding Microsoft Exchange support. Total standard OS X install is now <1Gb.
Plus you've now also got OpenCL support integrated to the OS (not sure if any of the OS or standard apps themselves will use it though), which hopefully should see some usage fairly soon from various software vendors. Reportedly it's fairly easy to take advantage of.

I don't really see a huge difference between Tiger on my old MBP and Leapord on my new MBP except the new one is lightning-quick though that's most likely due to the 2.8Ghz CPU and SSD

Can't wait for SL though - streamlining and performance is all I care about. I hope to persuade Apple to give it free as we spent £lots with them just a month ago...if not though it's only £25! MS should take a leaf out of Apple's book

I don't know if mine has arrived or not. From what I've heard, very few copies have been delivered today except for those who paid the extra tenner for the faster delivery. I'll find tomorrow but it's not the end of the world if it's not waiting for me.

Yeah my copy never showed up either. I hadn't built up my hopes for it showing today. The one chance i get to long lie in the morning will be when the posty decides to ring the door bell to sign for it!

Seeing some initial benchmarks from Snow Leopard. Huge performance increases in some cases, and unfortunately a big regression in OpenGL performance. Apple are aware of the latter, and working on a fix.
