Oh Noes! (3 RROD)
Finally my poor old Xbox has given up the ghost The 3rd house move, plus the excitement of getting to load up RB2 has clearly taken it's toll
Now before I check the manufacture date to see whether it's in warranty - any ideas/links on how I can fix it? If its too much bother I might just pick up a cheap Arcade second-hand or something, as it would be nice to get one with an HDMI output for our new AV setup. Ah well, 4-odd good years of gaming for free (came with a phone contract) can't really complain too much I suppose!

Might be worth seeing if you can towel trick/bake it (Davey had some success with this) it into working then trading it in. Funnlity enough there was an article on Eurogamer a couple of weeks ago suggesting just that, both for the 360 and PS3. They both seem to have much more resilient designs and have both just had a price cut.

I did the x-clamp mod myself, which worked for a while, but my Elite was already pretty damaged and only worked for a little while (though I may try it again just to see what happens). There's a few guides around on the net, I can find you the one I used if you're interested in trying it. As long as you're handy with a few small tools you should have no problems doing it

Cheers Davey, yeah if it's not too much bother I'm holding out hope that it might still be in warranty but pretty unlikely I think
Interesting Daz, definitely an option, although I'd feel bad about someone getting my soon to be non-functional 360 instead of a bargain they were after

LOL true true
I suppose if it doesn't work - if anyone on here fancies an upgrade to an Elite or change to a PS3 wink I might be looking for a new 360 shortly, lol

Here you go Rich, I used this guide http://www.xboxchopshop.com/catalog/man_360_open3.php in conjunction with these video guides http://www.youtube.com/lawdawg0931?gl=GB&hl=en-GB and this forum thread for tips http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=599216

I just got my 360 back today, this is number 5. They have all 3 RROD so far. Took just over a week to get back and i was pleasantly surprised to find a 1 month XBL gold sub come with it. Not sure it's the same 360 or a refurb, as they serial sticker at the back has been replaced with a whole new one. The like's of Manufacture Date has been replaced with Service Date etc etc.
/thread hijack off Like Davey, i done the x-clamp fix too on a second 360 i owned at the time and it actually lasted 3 months before packing in again. I reapplied thermal paste to it after that and it worked again for about 2 weeks. Now i just cba with it. It's sat in a cupboard somewhere |
