In the Market for a new tele!

Evening peeps,
Moving into a new flat soon, I'm in the market for a new tele. I dont have a huge sum of money devoted to this, but want something that is going to last...

Which seems reasonable, and is also availble in 32" option at £375. What are people's opinion on toshiba?
Looking for full HD, reliable, good range of connections and (possibly) up to 37" as much as possible below £500. What advice can the good peeps of BD give me?

Ouch. Whats that got thats worth that? (excuse the bluntness - its not meant to sound rude, I really dont understand a lot of the numbers and whats good these days!!)

I found it a lot of hard work finding a good LCD tv. The model numbers are absolutely key, just one letter difference in the tv name does make the difference between a good and crap screen.

I really like the Toshiba Regza range and managed to get a full 1080p 37" screen for £370 a few months back.

Do have a read around on avforums and have a good shifty in the threads with loads of replies, it's normally a sign for a tv to look out for.

If you are going to buy, get it done before Brown and chums whack another 2.5% on.

I've got a 37" LG HD tv with free view and HDMI connections - beautiful screen, got it for Around £400 6 months or so ago. But I managed to wangle a deal with the salesman who knocked off close to £100 off the price.

Had a bit of a look about for you as I know how much my head hurt when looking at tv's. The Toshiba's seem to be the XV635 -> RV635 with prices to match. There are reviews of Toshiba screens on AVforums, but this thread was useful.

The RV635 does not appear to support 24p which may cause jumping / skipping in blu ray. Now how much can the average guy can see really but this is another story. The XV635 probably will but i'll want to check.

£500 for a 37" XV635 set at amazon. Not bad considering that prices of LCD tv's went up earlier this year.

One final thing is to get a book/paper and start scribbling stuff as it'll probably take a few weeks to narrow down the search. Then find a shop to have a look at the screen in general (remembering that shops whack the contrast to full and mess with the settings). Using the AVForums you should have a good idea of what sets are considered good / bad. I prefer the Toshiba screens, other people prefer the panasonic plasma's / Samsung tv's. Then go online and get it loads cheaper
