PS3 Exclusives?
Apologies for the n00b thread but I am toying with getting a ps3. What are the playstation exclusive games that I should look at? I've had a look around to try and get an idea but I seem to be finding cross platform 360/ps3 ones.
I already own a 360, so interested in what the ps3 has to offer. I have heard of god of war 3 from the press recently. |

3D Dot Game Heroes - it's old school Zelda And damn fun too although rather hard in places
Demon's Soul - not played but meant to be a great challenging RPG Heavy Rain - excellent imo but Nokkonwud will vastly disagree with me I suspect inFamous - not played enough for an opinion God of War 3 - good but I do think a little overrated God of War Collection - God of War 1 and 2 in HD glory Killzone 2 - again not really played enough LittleBigPlanet - terrific fun Metal Gear Solid 4 - hell of a lot of cutscenes to watch! But typical MGS from what I've seen so far. Resistance 1 and 2 - not played either enough to have an opinion Uncharted 1 and 2 - fantastic Tomb Raider esque games. Ignore Nokkon when he berates the second one, he's wrong White Knight Chronicles - pretty weak RPG I wouldn't bother with Yakuza 3 - Very Shenmue like, I really need to give it some more time to say anything though They're the main ones I think oh and Motorstorm but not played that.

How could I forget Demon Soul's? It's easily the best game on the system IMO, but I would only recommend if you enjoy a challenge, a lot of people will simply find it too hard/frustrating to enjoy properly.

Thanks all
Bit shocked by the price of the system though.... They are holding the price up compared to the xbox! I won't be getting one brand new but I see that ballpark figures for the 40,60,80gb models seem to be around 150 ish. |

I wouldn't say they're holding the price up, more that the unit is more expensive to manufacture so the price needs to remain higher to cut losses (iirc the PS3 was sold at a loss up until the slim was released). Keep in mind it has things like bluray and wireless that have slowed the decline of the manufacturing cost.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune: The start to the series and an introduction to the most charismatic man since Roger Moore as James Bond. The game hasn't aged terribly well, graphically it holds up, but it doesn't offer anything new, but this is one of the exclusives that really made me sit up and take note and is one of the few games of this generation that I've finished in less than 5 sittings (in fact, if I remember correctly I did Uncharted in 1 day.)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves: Didn't have the same impact on me as the first did and it does have a couple of terrible gaming moments, most notably a very stale middle section featuring a train which is a gaming moment I wish I could forever erase from my memory,) but it does have an interesting story and some of the strongest secondary characters in a game. Metal Gear Solid 4: It does have more cut-scene time than game time, and it's not everyones cup of tea, but it should be experienced. I know it blows quite hot and cold with some people, I've completed it 3 and a half times and I'd still recommend it. It looks stunning, the cut-scenes, whilst too long, are very impressive and it does a good job of continuing the rather complex mythology of the MGS world. However, that said, this game does go further into proving that Hideo Kojima is one of the most over-rated individuals in game making history and is still unable to tell an intelligible story. But the games good. Demon's Souls: The one exclusive you have to play, and ironically the one that until just over a month ago, had absolutely no signs whatsoever that it was going to get an EU release. Some say it's brutally tough, but most stick through it and find it a highly rewarding game. This is one of the real exclusives I'd have loved to have seen over on Xbox360. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift: It's a very solid racing game and does improve on the original which did tend to become a little stale. This isn't entirely innocent of the same problems, but the different environment types and a multiplayer that actually works half decent do go a long, long way to improving the longevity of the game. God of War Collection: If you've not played the God of War series then you really should pick these up. Sure they don't look to good and they tell a rather warped version of the classic mythologies, but they're tons of fun and were two of the real standout games on the Playstation 2. God of War III: Only pick this up if you've completed the other two GoW games, it looks stunning but is arguably the weakest of the three titles by all accounts (but then again the first two are regarded as masterpieces.) Super Stardust HD: Sublimely brilliant PSN title, perfect controls and progression methods, actually takes on what Geometry Wars did on XBLA and beats it. One of the real standout games on Playstation 3. The ones I definitely feel you should avoid (having played them myself) are: Heavenly Sword Heavy Rain Killzone 2 MAG Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction Resistance: Fall of Man Pain I genuinely couldn't say many nice things about any of them. I suppose I could say that Heavy Rain at least looks pretty in most areas (but then it's also the worst game I've played in 2010.) |
