Default Greetings from New York City!

Indeed, I'm in New York!

But only just... there was a signal failure on the District Line this morning which delayed me over an hour. Despite running to the terminal I missed check in by 10 minutes, though they got me in, then I pushed in front of the queue at security and ran to the departure gate. It was bloody miles away

The flight was fairly uneventful. Watched Karate Kid and was so tired I kept mistaking Jackie Chan for Ken Hom, tried to go for a pee during some fairly cool turbulence, which required one hand to steady the out of control stream, one hand on the wall and head wedged against the side. What? I'd already begun, and that sweet feeling of relief and the challenge of the moment got the better of me

Then I got lost on the New York subway. I think I was secretly hoping to get mugged by NYC thugs, but everyone seemed to be more scared of me than I was of them. London instincts kicking in I guess, but everyone I've spoken to so far has been much friendlier than Londoners.

I finally popped up somewhere near the Empire State building which was convenient because I'm staying closeby. Short walk later and here I am.

Time for a nap. Post again soon

Welcome to my most favourite city!

New Yorkers are indeed much more friendly than Londoners, I've often passed subway journeys chatting to randoms, not something you can do over here.

If you're feeling flush head to Peter Luger's in Brooklyn (take the subway to Marcy Avenue and walk back towards Manhattan - you can't miss the big sign for it) for an awesome steak. It's quite expensive but well worth the monies in my eyes.

Ok, I can't sleep

Coffee and paracetamol instead.

I've read about that steak place on the flight. I think I might have to go there! Only problem is my company is vegetarian, so hope they have a veggie option

Errr. No, I don't remember seeing a veggie option. I'm pretty sure that even the awesome German potatoes are cooked in bacon fat.

If you want to tire yourself out a bit walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn then turn around and walk back - you get some stunning views of Manhattan

Veggie option? At Peter Lugers?! Tell her to put up or shut up... or just leave her in the hotel! ****ing vegetarians

I, like Paul, adore NY. Really want to try and go back next year.

It depends if you class fish as being a vegetarian option, which I don't. There's no 'veggie' options that I can see here.
