What enclosure to put Samsung 2TB HDD in?
I'm thinking of adding to my storage capacity. I have a Samsung 500GB HDD and I could do with some more space. The Samsung 2TB F4 EcoGreen HD204UI have a pretty nice price right now. My current Samsung 500GB is housed in an Icy Box enclosure using the USB2.0 connection. I was unable to get the e-SATA to work on my PC.
So I'm wondering if an Icy Box enclosure is still the best option for an enclosure? My budget is about £30-£40. Any suggestions? |

The Icy Box that you couldn't get working using eSATA, you did open up the enclosure and move the internal SATA cable to the other header, didn't you? Or maybe you did what I did and waste ages swearing, updating drivers before wondering what the other SATA header in the enclosure was for....
I always use Icy Box enclosures, the 2.5" variants aren't great but the 3.5" enclosures are really good. I've had a few other branded enclosures fail (PSU usually) but no such problems with the Icy Boxes. |

I might have a gander at the manual for the enclosure now and see if you're onto a winner. //Have just checked the Icy Box site and the manual is very thin on info. Each language gets just half a side of A4 and its very basic info. I think you're right though as my computer didn't detect the HDD on the e-SATA connection. I couldn't understand this because I could feel and hear the HDD spinning round when it was on USB 2.0. I posted a thread on Hexus and someone suggested another 3.5" Icy Boxy enclosure but this one can take two 3.5" drives and uses JBOD so I could have two 2TB Samsung drives and have Windows see them as separate drives. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/icy-b...b-30-interface http://www.raidsonic.de/en/products/..._objectID=6128 That's what I wanted to hear. I've never used any 2.5" enclosures but I wanted to be sure that the 3.5" Icy Box enclosures are still a good option. |
