29 Year old has her hearing implant turned on
This sort of stuff amazes me and shows the difference technology can make to people's lives.

fab isn't it? I remember crying at that baby hearing his Mum for the first time when they gave him an implant & switched it on. Amazing.

Lovely, just a shame the clip didn't last longer so we could see more than just crying, like her chatting to her hubby maybe.

As people have posted elsewhere, it seems a bit odd that she has bang on perfect diction (even with a bit of an accent) despite apparently never having heard a sound in her life, something i've never seen before some a totally deaf person. She also has a remarkable ability to understand spoken English straight away despite never having heard it before, no learning process at all and she has her eyes covered at the time, so she isn't lip reading either.
A moving video but I get the feeling the description isn't entirely truthful about the story surrounding it.

She has responded to those comments about her diction and speech and I see no reason to call her out on it. If there is doubt, why not assume the positive rather than the negative?
This one is probably staged too...these babies are terrible attention whores. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTzTt...e_gdata_player

The baby isn't instantly talking perfectly or understanding speech so i've no idea why you would comment that would be staged, seeing as it has absolutely nothing in common regarding what I doubted about the first video :/
I've not trawled through all the Youtube to find her comments but as for why call her out on it? Well I prefer to question things I don't understand or have doubts in, that's just how I work, I don't take things at face value without question.

I can see where divine is coming from, it does seem very strange. I come from the angle of sometimes things just happen. We can't explain everything and sometimes the strangest things DO just happen.

Jamie, my point was, if you google it, her response.and the background to this story is everywhere and there is enough information about it to make me take a positive view of it and her. I just think if there are two sides to an argument and evidence for both, then you should look at them both, not just one. Thats not taking things at face value without question, it's researching your position and making an informed choice. If you have enough time to argue the point on a forum, you have enough time to google it, see if the point is addressed and decide if you think it's real or not, rather than just posting doubts, that's what bugs me ~ people do it all the time- but regardless, it's a nice video, a nice moment, but we all know you aren't allowed them anymore without having to provide hard evidence that it's real. Just makes me sad. Where's the harm in assuming she's telling the truth until proven otherwise? What does it really matter?

I agree with your side Kitten
To me, strange things DO just happen and I don't feel the need to question it at all.I take the video for what it is, it's amazing to watch.
