Guys, I need a firewalls on my computer. I used to be protected by the one at home, but now it's not there anymore I feel all vulnerable. Not sure which one to go with. Any recommendations?

You're using a hardware router aren't you?
No firewall needed in that case.

I dont think outbound program control is anything you need. Just make sure you have a decent antivirus ![]()

Only PCs I'd get a firewall for are those that get connected to untrusted networks (e.g. laptops, PCs taken to LANs, etc.). I used to be paranoid about this stuff and every PC had to have a software firewall locked down to the max, now I just use Windows firewall and leave it at that.

Router has NAT, you are protected, to add a software firewall would be tin foil hat stuff

Use Windows Firewall.
I've been using it for ages no probs at all. Avast AVG, Windows Firewall, Ewido, Spybod S&D, Ad-Aware SE & C Cleaner takes care of all my needs for Free ![]() |

In the short term, download NOD32 - imo the best antivirus software there is. They have one of if not the best track record for detection in the wild and you get 30 days free - after that its something measly like £28 a year. It is also the least bloated antivirus software I have ever come across

I use windows firewall and Avast aswell as my Router of course - all seems to work fine
I used to use AVG but it was rubbish tbh - the moment I put Avast on and ran a boot scan it found a couple of nasties and plenty of adware (I had been pretty sure something had got through AVG as I'd started getting random pop-ups) |
