Default Ripping DVD's - What do you use?

Rarely do I have a need to, but I currently want to rip the contents of a DVD to Xvid - What programs are we all using out there in computer land? Doesn't have to be cross platform, open source preferred.

I googled and used 'FairUse Wizard', which seem to work ok, but I'm either left with the wrong aspect ratio or black lines at the end of it.

DVDFab Decrypter to rip the disk. It's free.
Then I use AutoGordianKnot.

Then if I want to recode to my phone or somethign like that, I use Lathe.

I use Gordian Knot (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot) for all my Ripping needs. There is a useful guide at Doom9 about it as well (http://www.doom9.org/ or http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main4.htm)

Don't know how well it works never used it, but i was under the impression VLC "converts" files from file/DVD/network stream etc... It's a great player not sure how it bodes with ripping though. Report back! (I never rip, it's actually easier/quicker for me to download the image of the DVD i already have!)

That's what I've done Alex - I have ISO's of DVD files and I want them ripped into a nicely compressed format for streaming to the 360.

Thanks for the links folks

I do the same as Flibster. Whilst I can and have used GordianKnott its just unnecessary hassle for the most part. AutoGK does the trick each time

Gordian Knot for me and I've used it for years now in its various versions, still a very simple program to use and more than powerful enough for what I require.

GordianKnot is installed, but I generally don't use it as I don't need to fart about with the advanced settings.

AGK works well plus is almost idiot proof.
