Default Odd 939 memory timings

How very odd, my DFI board won't boot any faster than 240mhz fsb 1:1 (memory @ 3,3,3,8). Fair enough I thought I either had a crap board or my memory was iffy. However I have Muskin Redline uber ram.

On a whim I tried a 9:10 divider, with the fsb at 280 and the ram at 254. It now boots and goes into memtest without any trouble. Yet the memory and cpu should be good enough to run in sync till around 270mhz. How very very odd, the upshot of this is I will be clocking my opteron till it begs and now see how much more the memory can take under the divider.

Anyone heard of increased performance of ram under a divider even when the resulting fsb (on the ram side) is higher than what it was when running 1:1? I'm mainly doing this to get more life out of my existing system as I really am loathed to upgrade again.
