Question Question for the masses - Company Sick Pay

Right, who can help me with this?

Basically Ive got a client who is self employed alongside his wife. Now she has recently had surgery that puts her out of work for the next 3 months. Ive told her to get a sick note from the doctors, but what I am not sure about is who pays the SSP?

*Would his (Ltd) company pay it then claim it back?

*Would the state pay it straight out?

*She is getting a personal allowance every month, could she keep paying herself that and not get SSP?

I havent done this in a while so am a bit rusty, sorry

From when I had my own Ltd co., I recall having to claim SSP form the state but it's not much..Of course she can keep paying herslf as long as there are funds in the compnay.. that's at their discretion and the company can claim some back for a period. It may have all changed though.

I did the same for maternity when Teresa was pregnant was Peter.. She was on my books, I paid her as normal then claimmed SMP from the state..

I did say she could keep paying herself, but it would be at the companies discretion.

Thanks for that Huddy

I thought you couldn't get SSP if you were self employed? I thought you had to apply for incapacity benefit instead?
