Dell Inspiron @ 1920x1080?
Have been trying to get my laptop to output 1920x1080 on the VGA port to our TV but it just won't have it. Also tried it on our TV upstairs for 1366x768 but still no joy. Best I can get is 1024x768 on both TV's. Anything higher just isn't in the options :/
It's a Dell Inspiron with an Intel945GM chipset. Using Vista Ultimate and the latest Intel drivers. Native res on the panel is 1440x900...not sure if that would limit the external VGA res though. Tried looking on Dell support forums but no joy. Any ideas? |

Yep, tried powerstrip. I was also just looking through their forums and it seems others have had similar problems and I may have found an answer
Can't test it out until I get home tonight though. |

I did start to wonder if the 945 was actually capable of 1920x1080 until I tried 1376x1024 and that didn't work either. Deffo something up somewhere.

My laptop under vista with the shoddy nvidia drivers can only put 1280x1024 i think over VGA and its a sodding dedicated 7400.... Seems to be driver related my end too and i'm have troubles, i've kinda learned to live with my monitor plugged into my laptop in a sill res .

Would you adam and eve it
Thought I'd give this another bash when I got in. My good VGA cable was upstairs so I grabbed an older one (the original one I bought that gave me ghosting) out of the drawer downstairs. Plugged it in and it all worked 100% first time. So I then take the cable upstairs and that worked too. Swapped cables again and it didn't work. Hhmmm. So I've got two cables...one works fine but gives ghosting, the other gives no ghosting but doesn't give the res I want. The only thing that was different is that with the cable that works, both TV's show up as PnP whereas with the other cable they're Non-PnP. Both cables have the same wires/pins so not sure what the difference is. What I need to do now is find a decent VGA cable that gives me full res and no ghosting. |

Sounds like the 'good' cable might have a missing/faulty DDC signal. DDC uses pins 12 and 15, on the offchance you're interested.
