iPod Touch scratched to buggery? A solution.

I had to return my original iPod Touch and get it replaced due to a fault with the on/off button and I'd already got wise to how badly the screen gets dirty so when I got the replacement I was very careful how I took it all out of the packaging and ensured that I left the skin tight plastic cover on the front.

All well and good.

The trouble was that the nice shiny back got scratched and grubby very quickly. I didn't realise how rubbish it looks until I left it face down on my desk at the weekend.

So I wondered about polishing it up but really didn't know what to use. Then it struck me. I have some Cape Cod metal polishing cloths that I bought a few years ago on eBay to polish up a metal watch bracelet which was badly scratched. A quick rub on the back of the Touch removed some of the scratches so I went on the lookout for a protector.

I found one that was cheap and looked as though it'd do the job at Geekanoids so I ordered one on Sunday.

It arrived today so it was out with the Cape Cod again and I spent ten minutes or so piling on the elbow grease to really polish the scratches out of the back of the Touch. When I'd done it looked like new so I applied the protector and apart from quite a lot of small air bubbles (have you any idea how hard it is to get these things on without bubbles?) it's worked an absolute treat and now both the front and back of my iPod Touch are nicely protected

I've founds glasses (spectacles) cleaning cloths really good for cleaning my iTouch up but the back does need a polish before I try yet again to apply screen protectors. If anyone can actually put them on properly I would pay good money to get it done properly. I'm really anal about things like that (I'd rather have my iTouch scratched than have bubbles) but lack the ability to apply protectors properly.

Lozza is probably the best person to speak to, though I did a reasonable job with my M3100 after several attempts (only one significant bubble). The key seems to be using an applicator that's as straight as possible (but no pointy ends - don't want to start off with a scratch), and then constant even pressure in whichever direction you're applying the protector. Easier said than done.

The problem I had when trying it on my Touch was that after the first attempt even with what I thought was an immaculately clean Touch the protector sticky side was too dirty to try a 2nd time

Aye - if you don't do it from new that can be a problem. Cleaning up a screen isn't an easy task either though there are supposed liquid cleaners available.

I bought a screen cover for my iphone from the Apple shop and it was dead easy to put on perfectly. I am awesome though

My brother recently got an itouch they're so nice! The back of my iPod and (ashamedly) parts of my mac book need a good polish so i might try some

The protector must be slightly porous, almost all the bubbles have cleared by themselves without me having to do anything.
