iPod Touch 1.1.3 firmware
So Steve Jobs wants $20 for features that were included on the iPhone for free and at launch.

Yeah, I did notice that little gem. I wonder if new iPod Touch owners will get those for free.

That was my original opinion but last night I looked at what's there, and I looked at the twelve quid cost (yeah, great conversion rate guys) and I just had to click the button!
It's rather nice.

Apple are really starting to piss me off now. What with their crap driver support in Leopard and now charging for this update, I think they're making some bad decisions lately.

I have a lot of respect for the way that Apple have turned themselves around in the last 10 years but now they have the power they are abusing it in exactly the same way that they hated 10 years ago. I love my iTouch and there are a few other Apple products that I would like to own so I realise that this is probably an idle threat but if Apple don't stop becoming everything they have critisised in the past I'll never buy another Apple product (not that it would be the blindest bit of difference). |

They are charging for the update because they know the people who want the stuff on there are willing to pay for it. I'm not being funny with people here but there has been lots of ranting about the high price of the iPhone and the iPod touch but it's a completely upgradable OS in there so funcationality can be added and you pay a small price.
Heck if anyone else had released the touch you'd need to buy a brand new unit to get the new features.

I think the problem is that Sony have been updating the PSP firmware, adding new features for free. Xbox 360 updates have also been free and there's been some great improvements there. I'm a big fan of Apple products. I like that everything does what it does, and works with what I use. However I can't see the point in charging $20 for a firmware update, besides simply making quick money. If I had a Touch I would pay, its a good upgrade. I'd still be a bit annoyed.

So you'd happily pay for OS X upgrades as well?
